Perhaps we should use the fabled double trad grip so it'll actually be "matched" and trad at the same time.
Or maybe show three hands instead of two, with a left trad and a left matched.

I think Chris' is killer actually. I'd like to see a different font but that's about it. I don't think the skin drum is a problem but hey, that's me. (the modern drum shop logo comes to mind)
Chris, if you can throw one up with a modern drum I'd love to see it. I know what you're saying about it looking a bit odd. (I think)
You could probably get about the same effect with a minimalist looking (metal?) piccolo snare...

LDguy, very cool idea... I like where you are coming from with this. Just need to build on it a bit. I might snag a shot of one of those yamaha drums for my HOD logo to replace the hand drum.
To pick up a dead thread...I was thinking about these logos and decided to goof around a bit. I'm not a major designer, but pretty handy with photoshop. So I took Chris's design and modified it with a snare (though the spacing around the "o" is slightly whacked). Then I started messing around with/ recombining a few things. These are just sketches.

OK...all in good fun, just wanted to spark some further ideas on this stuff. Any of these can be taken and modified ad nauseum, or manipulated by someone more skillful than I.
